Bodyboarding - Fun in the Water and Sun
Even though BODYBOARDING isn’t considered an extreme sport, it has some elements that have made it very attractive to young people.
It started in Hawaii around 1971 and is a younger version or “little brother” of SURFING.
My two teenage friends Andres and Josema have been BODYBOARDING for at least two years and they are completely taken with it. I had to know why.
They told me that they started practicing this sport in Santander, Spain with some friends and cousins who taught them the basics. And then continued in Acapulco, Mexico.
To practice BODYBOARDING you only need: to be able to swim, a board which is smaller and wider than a surf board, a pair of fins and of course a bathing suit and lots and lots of energy and a desire to have a wonderful time, make new friends and spend an early evening bragging about your BODYBOARDING achievements. Don’t forget your sun blocker.
Where can you practice? This is one of the main attractions . You can practice at any beach and you don’t need extra high waves. Another incentive is that the gear you need isn’t very expensive.
Andres and Josema love Santander and Acapulco, but they would like to go to Australia or Hawaii some day and try to become pro’s.
I’m tempted, by their enthusiasm, to give it a try. How about you?
Thanks to Andres and Josema for helping me out on this one.
