En esta fecha tan importante, también conocida como el Día de la Raza, se conmemora el aniversario de cuando Cristóbal Colón puso pié por primera vez, en tierras americanas, en 1492.  Qué difícil es imaginar la valentía de esos hombres que se aventuraron a lo desconocido en las 3 carabelas:  La Niña, La Pinta y la Santa María, sin contar con ninguna de las ventajas tecnológicas que facilitan nuestra vida y nuestros viajes, para dar apertura a  un intercambio comercial y cultural. 

En 1958 el gobierno español proclamó “Dada la enorme trascendencia que el 12 de octubre significa para España y todos los pueblos de América Hispana, el 12 de octubre será fiesta nacional bajo el nombre de Día de la Hispanidad”.

No hay conquistador misericordioso ni pueblo conquistado que se sienta feliz:  Sin embargo, celebremos un momento histórico que marca el encuentro de dos mundos y celebremos también a nuestra raza, resultado de la unión de ambas culturas, las cuales nos han hecho lo que somos ahora y lo que hemos logrado.  Tomemos lo mejor de ambos y  sintámonos felices, ahora y siempre, de ser ORGULLOSAMENTE HISPANOS!  Felicidades a todos los pueblos de la América Hispana.

This very important holiday, also known as Day of Race, conmemorates the day when Christopher Columbus first set foot,  in 1492,  in the Americas.  How hard it is to imagine the courage of those men who ventured unto the unknown in three caravels: La Niña, La Pinta and La Santa Maria without any of the technological advantages that make our life and travels so much easier, and who opened the borders for a commercial and cultural exchange.

The Spanish government proclaimed in 1958 that: “Due to the enormous significance of October the 12th for Spain and all of the people of Hispanic America, October 12 shall be a national holiday known as  Día de la Hispanidad”.

There are no merciful conquerors,  nor are there people who feel  happy to be conquered:  Nevertheless, let us celebrate an historic moment that marks the encounter of two worlds and let us also celebrate our race, result of the joining of Hispanics and native Americans, which has made us what we are and what we have achieved.  Let´s take the best of both and now and always feel  PROUD TO BE HISPANIC.  We are all proud of our roots.  Congratulations!

Plácido Domingo, tenor hispano, quien tiene un lugar preferencial y profundo dentro del corazón de su público, y en especial de los mexicanos, dará un concierto excepcional el 4 de octubre en las ruinas de la antigua ciudad Maya de Chichen-Itzá, nueva maravilla del mundo moderno.

En un evento que se calcula tendrá más de 10,000 asistentes, se pretende unir al arte con la cultura pre-colombina en un show espectacular de luz y sonido y, sobre todo, con la voz y presencia única y maravillosa de nuestro querido Plácido Domingo.  

De esta manera  sumará  este concierto en Chichen-Itzá con otros ofrecidos en diferentes lugares históricos como son: La Ciudad Prohibida de Beijing, China, Luxor en Egipto y la Torre Eiffel de París

Plácido Domingo, Hispanic tenor, who has a very special place in the hearts of his fans, and most of all, in the hearts of Mexicans, will  perform, on October 4, in the ancient Mayan city of Chichén-Itzá, one of the Wonders of the Modern World. 

 More than 10,000 people are expected to enjoy a Light and Sound show among the ancient pyramids uniting modern art with pre-colombine history and crowning this event with the presence and voice of our beloved Plácido Domingo.

This concert will be added to those already given by Mr. Domingo in other historic places like “The Forbidden City” in Beijing, China, Luxor in Egypt and the Eiffel Tower in France.
