The Universidad Iberoamericana campus Puebla is showing a sample of the work of Contemporary artist Felipe de la Torre, who has profound feelings deeply rooted in this chaotic time and age, called “Disasters in Peace”; and offering as well a conference and workshop for the benefit of Art, Design and Architecture alumni.

“These series of oil-on-canvas drawings began to build up a little over five years ago. The purpose: to be timeless…, I do not know how much tome, maybe a long time, and at the same it can have and has begun many millenium ago; before, now, after, for many…
Supported by the work of Goya, The Whims, The Disasters of War…, evidently of free interpretation, there is the proposal to continue mercilrss the visual exercise, rooted necessarily in the conscience that allows us to look at ourselves in the midst of this hypocritical peace barely disguised, collectively and individually. To be critically active in our daily routine, to provoke a shared reflection, to incite ourselves to stop, actively and passively, the state of things in which we are immersed, at least unbalanced in all senses”. Felipe de la Torre - Sept. 2008

His work has arguments, composition and leaves a deep imprint in everyone who observes it. His understanding of the artistic language is aesthetic and politically argumentative as well as completely real within its subjectivity.
Well known artist and former Head of the Art, Design and Architecture Department, Juan Valderrama, was also a part of the panel. His conference, supported by photographs of his work and the work of other artists, deserves a space of its own because of its excellence. We will be sharing it with you in the near future.
And last, but not least, the work of Professor Xavier Recio Oviedo has enriched the alumni with the many distinguished professionals he has persuaded to, not only show their work, but who share their experience in interesting workshops.
