El Parque Nacional de Tortuguero es considerado el área mas protegida para el desove de la tortuga verde.  Se localiza en la parte oeste de la costa del Caribe en el norte de Costa Rica.  Las tortugas “caparazón de cuero” y “picos de halcón” también anidan a lo largo de las misma playa.

La temporada de anidamiento normalmente comienza en octubre, sin embargo, los cambios climáticos han iniciado la emigración en septiembre.

Este mismo fenómeno se lleva a cabo en las playas del Pacífico en Guanacaste (también Costa Rica).  Aquí la tortuga “baula” comienza a anidar.

Costa Rica es realmente un país privilegiado teniendo el desove de tortugas  tanto en sus costas del Atlántico como del Pacífico  de su territorio.

The leatherback and the hawksbill turtles also nest along the same beach.
