Pamplonada – Feast of San Fermin

Pamplonada,  the traditional feast of Pamplona, Spain, where it gets its name,   originated in the 13th Century, when St. Fermin died when he was gored by a bull.  This saint´s holiday is on July 7 and the festivities last for 8 days.

It starts at 8 o´clock in the morning when the bulls are set free in the streets until they reach the arena.  The run lasts 3 minutes.  Only men can run with the bulls wearing traditional white clothes and red bandanas.

Famous American writer, Ernest Hemingway, who loved Spain and bullfighting, ran with the bulls on many ocasions in Pamplona, and with his pen immortalllized this tradition.
