Good parenting is the clue for successful and happy children, but sadly in many countries the father´s role is highly  underrated and  misunderstood.  He is supposed to be the head of the family, the main provider and, what is worse,  he is expected to be the one to discipline his kids with punishment and often times by spanking or belting them.  How many times is he welcomed home after a hard day at work with complaints about his kids?  This is most unfair.

Speaking from a woman´s point of view, we need our father´s full approval in order to hold our own in a World were half of the population are male.  Our Dad is the first man in our life; his unquestioned approval  will help us like and love ourselves and what is more important, to demand respect from others.

Sons tend to repeat their father´s behaviour.  So a good example will create a new generation of good  husbands, fathers,  friends and citizens.

To all those fathers whose goal is to have honest, hard-working, respectful and loving children, we send our warmest  wishes for a very happy Father´s Day.

These remarks are purely personal.  They´re about the relationship we women often times have with our mother.  When we are very young there is no one we love more than our mother;  we need her near us all the time.  If we get hurt, feel sick or tired,  only mom can comfort us.

Later as teenagers we want to be like the most popular girl in school, a movie  star, a pop singer, even our best friend´s mom.  Our mother is old fashioned, knows nothing and does not understand us.  Her taste in clothes is awful, she does not approve of make-up and, again, she doe not understand us.

But, some years later, I become a mother.  I am terrified of my baby and only mother can help me.  She knows it all, after all, she had me and I am all right.  She does not mind my calling at all hours to tell her my baby is crying and so am I.  God bless my mom!

The most perfect mother-daughter relationship I have known is that between Fernanda and her mom.  Carmelita is a lady.  She is well educated, a great cook, designes clothes and can sew like a pro and she has impeccable taste.  Fer values her mom´s opinion; she worries about her and loves her deeply.  Carmelita loves, knows and appreciates profoundly her daughter as a woman, a mother and a professional.

A few days ago, Fer´s son José got married.  Her mom designed and made both their outfits.  Fer never questioned her mom´s taste and both looked lovely.  I find this trust remarkable.
