Turtle Spawning in Costa Rica

Tortuguero National Park is considered the most protected area for the spawning of the green turtle.  It is located in the Western part of the Caribbean coast of northern Costa Rica.

The leatherback and the hawksbill turtles also nest along the same beach.

The nesting season normally begins in October, however climatic changes have started the emigration in September. This same phenomenom takes place on the Pacific beaches in Guanacaste (also Costa Rica).  Here the “Baula” turtles start nesting.

Costa Rica is indeed a priviledged country having turtles spawn on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of its territory. You can find tours that will provide you with lodgings and guides to help you on this exotic and  emotional adventure.
